A New Year, A New Word ~ A New Tree Of Life!

Many of you know that the Peace Sign is a favorite of mine,

and I always wear my soothing, peaceful stones

(aquamarine, labradorite, etc).

This year I am adding a new symbol to

my personal collection: a new "Tree of Life" charm.

On New Years Eve I began designing a new Tree of Life

(thank you Patty and Yo for the impetus)

inspired by the might oak tree just outside my studio.

Then on my New Years hike, awed by all the beautiful oak trees

in the Santa Monica mountains, I knew this would be my

symbol for the new year!

And my word, my intention,

for the New Year is "Strength"

inner strength ~ emotional and physical

(this is the year I gain my "core" strength thanks to yoga and pilates!)

spiritual strength and strength in numbers (friends, family & financial!)

I just found the lovely Brook Farm General Store on my morning surf.
They have an online shop as well as a brick and mortar, located in
Williamsburg, NY. There are so many wonderful gift ideas ( for me and for others!)

I was moved to tears by "Stormy Anacapa".

I found this strand of gorgeous rough cut clear quartz

a year ago in San Francisco. I was taking a little break

from my time visiting my mom in the hospital

I found this little store so jam packed with beads.

These chunks, looking like ice, were new to me.

They are quite big but feel great on the wrist.

After the intense rain last week our pool was a cement mud pond.

We knew we had to clean it, it hadn't been drained since we moved in.

So this week, while our skateboarding son was out of town

(not intentional, trust me!), we had our pool drained and cleaned!

Who knew it was a white pool?

I always thought it was that lovely mottled green : )

We are filling it as I write. 90 degrees by weeks end,

I'll be taking a dip for sure.

Kat and I just had to try sitting in the pool as it fills.

I love this aqua more than the green : )

Well, finally I have listed both styles of the Lotus Blossom

charms on my Etsy site.

One dangles, the other is threaded onto the silk.

I am ordering more colors of the gorgeous 3' long wraps.

The charms are being cast in yellow and white bronze.

(the white bronze will look very much like silver)

They will hopefully be available to ship beginning March 28th.

in this 'One Hand Reaches Out' Etsy treasury.

All the artisans featured are donating proceeds to help

the people of Japan. We are just a few of the many

Esty members worldwide trying to help in a small way

those devastated by the earthquake and tsunami in Japan.

I will be donating 20% from the sales of my

Angel Wing necklaces to ShelterBox,

a UK based disaster relief organization.

Additionally, I will be selling my new Lotus Blossom

charms on colored silks with all the proceeds

to go toward a $1000 Shelter Box.

It is funky yet elegant with a rustic gold bezel set jumbo cz.

I have used bits and pieces of various links of silver chain

and wire wrapped them together with gold beads.

It measures approximately 28" and can be worn long,

as I've been doing every day, or wrapped 4 times as a bracelet.

One could possibly doubled it and wear as a chocker.

I only needed to go downtown for two days.

Each day I was greeted by this majestic

Disney Hall with it's shiny silver panels.

They remind me of the cobblestone streets in Paris.

Perhaps you will be seeing some similar

February is American Heart Month.

As some of you know, I have a little heart situation happening.

It was discovered a few years ago. I am doing well.

I am under the excellent care of Dr. C. Noel Bairey Merz and the

Women's Heart Center at Cedar-Sinai. I am so very grateful to

Dr. Bairey Merz and the Heart Center's cutting edge

research on women's heart disease.

To help express my gratitude and raise awareness

I will be donating 20% from the sales of all my rustic heart jewelry

(from my Etsy site, my website and studio visits)

for the month of February to The Women's Heart Center.

You can give someone a little love

(give one to yourself because you are special too!)

and know you are loved by me and you are helping to

change the future of women everywhere.

And these new hearts are way cool!

February will be a busy month. It has taken on a deeper meaning

for me and I hope it will for others. Heart disease is the number one

killer of women and Heart Truth, a national campaign for women

about heart disease, has chosen February 4th as National Wear

Red Day, to show support for women's heart disease awareness.

So, let's see, if I wear my red boots, my red silk scarf from Paris,

my new Love Links necklace and my pearl earrings with

little gold hearts, I should be good for the 4th and the 14th!!!

Cloe Cloeherty Nudes

I met Cloe Cloeherty some years ago at the Beverly Hills

Affaire in the Garden arts and craft show.

She paints such beautiful nudes.

Her oils were way too much for me to afford

at the time but I kick myself for not grabbing

some of her amazing charcoal studies.

p.s. I am beginning work on my own nude studies, very small and in bronze.

Should be kinda fun ; )

Nicole Strasburg, Artist and Dog Lover!

My friend Nicole has a new obsession,

in addition to her love affair with her canine companions!

She not only paints and etches images of them,

she has started hand carving rubber stamps of these images.
